Brass Reed Wire
The bassoon reed making kits offered here are an alternative to purchasing 3, 4, 5, or more separate reed making tools.  With this kit, as well as the others I sell, you will get one handle, with multiple exchangeable tips.  The hex-based formation of all the various tips I offer (forming, holding, diamond, reaming, etc), when used in combination with the Quick Release magnetic handles, are a real space saver (all components will easily fit in your bassoon case), as well as a huge time saver.  The Quick Release mechanisms are simple to use as they require no annoying hex wrenches, set screws, pin vises, or thumb screws. The hex-based shape of all the pins will not rotate when reaming or forming.  Plus- the magnets in the base of the mechanism will hold all tips firmly in place.
These mechanisms are mainly used in the trades where machinist, carpenters, electricians, etc., are also now able to use just one handle with exchangeable tips on the job sight.  This eliminates the need for a large number of individual tools, as well as saving a significant amount of time.
For
those
who are more comfortable with the
traditional thumb screw handle,  one of those is included as well
The pliers in this kit are custom made are quite similar in concept to the wonderful RIEGER handles with a few upgrades(Tungsten
carbide wire cutter, spring loaded handle, & a more compact
design)
and have been specifically machined for use as bassoon pliers.
The forming and holding mandrel pins in this kit are made of high-grade stainless steel
& will never rust or tarnish.
Although slightly more costly, the choice of stainless steel for these mandrels (not brass or standard less expensive steel), guarantees these tips will last a lifetime,  and additionally, provide an extremely smooth surface for forming.
This 10 pin base is made of
Hard Maple
, and the handles are made of
beautiful
GERMAN Beech.   The board & handle have both been finely sanded, and finished with a light oil varnish.
