  • Condition: “These antique tiles are in extremelly fine to superb condition.I can assure these batch I got recently is the best recovered I ever had.If you are not familiar to Pas Calais antique tiles I will tell you that its surface is never perfect plain but convex or concave, the process how these tiles were done was enterily by hand, the beveled edge was handmade in a very artisanal way.The decorative motif was made in different layers using the stencil technique.Imperfections are not only usual but are desirable so as these tiles have that unique look. All are different not a single tile is equal to other. (on image I used the same tile duplicated to show how looks like grouped in 4) But what is most important is that these tiles have perfect edges, perfect color ! a way over standard condition best is imposible (at least I have not seen in 20 years)”

    What is this ?
    This is a group of 36 Nord Pas Calais tiles. Are original old povenent from French Flanders area, that is why are very similar to Delft tiles. But they
    only exist in France and certain south america cities (Rio Buenos Aires Montevideo) were brought to our country in the SXIX in large quantities mainly used as ballast in the boats to balance their navigation.
    So important has been his presence that there is a tile museum in Uruguay and even a catalog of which I add images so as you see.
    They are all from the factory Felix Vincent Freres of Desvres Pas Calais France. This factory operated from 1870 to 1885.
    They are in a superb state, very difficult to obtain thus, they simply present the natural imperfections of a material entirely handmade. From its oblique cut of the biscuit to the decoration that was using perforated plates (stencil technique).
    Used in kitchens give the space an incredible and unrepeatable character among a charming calm blue tone ideal to combine with whites & gray.
    They measure 11 x 11 centimeters and are 1 cm thick aprox.
